Remote Teaching

Lectures

  • Lectures will be held remotely at the originally scheduled time in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone.
  • We will be using a video conferencing software called Zoom to hold the lectures remotely. You can create an account for free through https://jhubluejays.zoom.us.

Note

Please use the following links to join the lecture meetings: https://wse.zoom.us/j/667705592

  • Lectures will be recorded and posted online to accommodate students in remote time zones. The expectation is, however, that you attend and participate during lectures unless you are unable to because of logistical issues or time difference.

Tip

Here are some tips for participating in lectures:

  • Download the Zoom desktop client and join the lecture meeting from your computer (it works better compared to tablet/phone)
  • Set up an intentional space where the class is going to happen; ideally a quiet and private location.
  • Consider using a headset to reduce sound interference and unwanted echoing.
  • Make sure you’re muted when not talking.
  • Ask questions using chat.
  • Utilize the raise your hand feature if wanting to ask a question live.
  • You will find many short video trainings here that can help you learn more about Zoom's "raise hand" feature, chat, etc.

Project Meetings

  • Project meetings will be held remotely at the originally scheduled time in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone.

  • We will be using Zoom to hold the project meetings. In particular, we will use a Zoom feature called Breakout Rooms to emulate the in-person arrangement of our project meetings. Using this feature, we will split the Zoom meeting into separate sessions; you and your group members will be placed in the same session. Your group advisor (and instructors) will switch between sessions.

Warning

Your attendance during project meeting is mandatory (unless you have a valid reason to not attend).
